The Racism of Admiral Raphael Semmes

The local Sons of Confederate Veterans camp is named after Admiral Raphael Semms.

Raphael Semmes from his diaries is reveal to be quite the racist and looks down on Brazilians because they have mixed racial ancestry.

Start at page 191 and read through to the beginning of page 192.  At the end of page 190 and going into page 191 you can read how Semmes erected a tombstone, with the words, "in memoriam of Abraham Lincoln who died of nigger on the brain."
